Box making
You will receive pre-prepared wood (usually ash or oak) for you to make a small wooden box with multiple dovetail joints.
You will learn the basics of marking out accurately, sawing, chiselling, planing, and finishing a piece to a high standard.
In addition to making the box we will look at a number of related fine woodworking topics including: different species of wood; where to source and how to buy wood; different wood cuts and wood movement; waxes, oils and varnish and how to use them; sanding and finishing; using a shooting board.
The course will run over 10 evenings allowing us to make a more sophisticated box than we have done in previous evening courses. (The timing is also designed to allow students to miss one session if they have to and still complete the box.)
You will have some choice as to lining, hinges, handle, engraving etc. time permitting. Most people are very, very proud of their boxes and especially their dovetails!
