A New Start
As an adult, it can be difficult to gain a comprehensive foundation in woodworking skills without embarking on a long-term and expensive course, often necessitating relocation. At the Northern School of Woodwork we provide an intensive 10 week course which combines hands-on workshop time with home study and skills practice.
The course is tried and tested and has received great feedback. It’s a very cost effective way to prepare the building blocks for a new direction in your working life.
The course includes 10 days of one to one workshop time over 10 weeks and includes:
Tool preparation
Tool sharpening
Planing (flat and square)
Shooting board use
Chiseling
Sawing
Marking and measuring
Hand cut dovetails
Hand cut mortise and tenon
Safe and accurate machine use:
band saw
chop saw
table saw
planer thicknesser
router table & routers
Wood movement
Wood selection
Sanding preparation and wood finishing.
Selecting and buying wood
Half blind / lapped dovetails
Project work throughout including:
Box making
Furniture design
Cost: c.£3250-£3950 depending on dates.
Applications: a face to face interview will be conducted before any application is accepted.
